Sprints and High Jump
Sprints at Athletics
At athletics we were doing sprints. At the sprints we split into two heats. The first heat ran then the second group ran after. When you cross the finish line the judges tell what place you got. If you got 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th then you get into the final. To qualify into central zone you must get 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th in the finals. At the start we ran 80 meters. Next we had to run 100 meters that was a bit harder. At the start of the race there was a cap gun that made a HUGE BANG. Everyone was nervous at the start of the race. At the end of the race everyone was very tired and puffed. Sprints is very tiring but very fun. We had an awesome day.

High Jump
On Wednesday it was athletics day for
year 4 and up. There were five different sports; they were sprints, quoits, long
jump, vortex and high jump. We are going to tell you a bit more about high
jump. Basically high jump is when you run up to the gym mat and scissor kick up
over the pole. Also if you jump over the pole the supervisor will raise the
pole when everyone has had their second turn. To get into central zone you have
to beat a certain height, it varies from gender to gender or year group. When
you get into central zone you get to face other schools if have beaten the qualifying
height.
