We have been doing some more art in class looking at native birds of New Zealand. We began with everyone doing a pukeko. First step is to draw a chalk outline on the paper and make sure that everything looks perfect. Then we drew around the chalk using a black crayon. Once this was finished we added further detailing using a white crayon - you couldn't really see it but it appeared once the dye had been put on. Next we used a selection of dyes and painted this between the crayon outline. The challenge was to use a range of colours to make texture and use some blending to make it look more interesting. The final step was to use a vivid to add the finer detail and tidy up any of the outlines.
Whaea was so impressed with our work that some of them have been used in the office - some have even been framed!
After we had mastered the pukeko art it was time select our own bird and have a go.
Danger lurks where a volcano sits and yellow smoke fills the sky,lava comes bursting out like a waterfall upside down.It carries on bursting until it tumbles down, as if it was a water slide.We start running as if we are on a cross country course. Some of that yellow smoke shall disappear to make way for the lava and turn the night sky red. Lavary rocks fall in the water like meteors from space, as we hurry to our boats.We watch as the dark mountain makes more and more lava come out. Everybody knows that if you’re close to a volcano nothing will ever be the same.
